Billy Damhoff Wins The RROL Late Model Race at Pikes Peak

Race number six on the Rubbins Racin' Late Model Series saw it's sixth different winner come across the line as Fulton, Illinois' Billy Damhoff led 74 laps and the Most Laps Led Award on his way to his first RROL victory.
Billy, tell us how it feels to come home a winner in this tough division?

"My race didn't start off too good, thanks to being a lap down on the start from my computer locking up. Things got better when Tommy let me get my lap back coming to a caution. From that point on, I just tried to be smooth and stay out of trouble, and I think I did a pretty good job of it. The race played into my hands, with almost everyone else having trouble of their own. I feel bad for Tommy though, because he had the best car. But, I'm not complaining either. Overall, it was an awesome day for the Morrison Blacktop Chevrolet."

RROL Late Model Points leader Tommy Smith continues to be the picture of consistancy with another second place finish in the Smith and ward Home Improvement Chevrolet. How was your night, Tommy?

"I had a great car in practice. I slipped up on my qualifying lap and only got fifth out it, so I just paced myself in the race, early on. I stayed out to lead a lap for points during a caution, then pitted by myself during the next caution. After that it was really fast and I was coming up to lap the 46 car, and he got into me racing to get his lap back. I don't think it was intentional, but it hurt the motor and we were just holding on after that. Billy was just good enough to stay in front of me. He did a heck of a job not to slip and let me by. Scooter also ran a great race in his first event with us. But the finish was important for my points, and we'll just try to win one next week."

The RROL Late Model series also welcomed some new faces this week, as Scott Bryant of Rochester, New Hampshire came home third in his first start on the tour. Tell us about your race, Scott?

"I was just thrilled to be able to dodge some wrecks and bring the Seacoast Harley Davidson/Landrys Auto Salvage/Farmington Computers Chevy home with a third place finish. This is a great series, and I'm excited to do this well in my first start!"
