NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2013

Apparently there is a tie for the 5th and final spot per Jenna Fryer. Announcement should be made after 6pm.

    Wendell Scott
    Benny Parsons
    Fireball Roberts

Yet, Rusty Wallace is the one that gets the nod? Might as well go ahead and induct DW. Oh wait....

I'm surprised Rusty got in on the first try.

The big thing I have been reading about right now is its numbers and legends of the sport. Fireball was the tying vote for 5th place. Logically Fireball will make it in the 2014 class.

Wendell I honestly doubt will ever get into the HOF. He broke the color barrier and did good things, but one career win apparently is lingering in the minds of the voters (at least who are on twitter).

I'm kinda surprised Rusty made it in this year but a couple things you gotta think of.
First as they said on race hub, Wallace was the only eligible driver with 50+ wins who wasnt already in the HOF.
Also you gotta think to yourself, does Rusty deserve to be in the HOF? I would say yes.

Obviously the issue is he makes it in in front of some others but you gotta remember we are still early in the game here as this is only the 4th class, there are still dozens of HOF drivers that have been retired for years that deserve to be in the HOF who still wont get in for a few years. Of the 25 nominations this year I bet most of em if not all of em will get in eventually anyway, personally to me it doesnt matter when.

Also I gotta say I LOVE the broadcasters award they are giving out and two VERY deserving men with their name on that trophy in Barney Hall and Ken Squire, I think its cool that they got somebody from TV and Radio.

I was just thinking about it yesterday when hearing about all this HOF stuff, I thought that they should have a broadcasters division so this is a very good start.

    Decent class

I agree with battalionfan888, Rusty's accomplishments alone make him an Hall of Famer. I think people are just butthurt over Rusty the Announcer, not Rusty the Racer.

The top 12 winningest drivers among non-winners are now in the HoF. So how could you leave Rusty, who's 9th all time?

As far as snubs, the winningest driver now who isn't in the HoF is Tim Flock who has 39 wins. Next best is Fireball Roberts with 37, who lost out on the tiebreaker for the 5th spot with Buck Baker.

Flock and Joe Weatherly are the only two-time Cup champs not yet inducted.

And for non-Cup drivers you've got Sam Ard and Jack Ingram (Sportsman/Busch/NNS) and Jerry Cook (Modifieds). Cook actually finished 7th in the voting, with Flock 8th.

I think there are far more accomplished people who rightfully belong in the HOF over Rusty at this time.

They'll keep doing this year after year though because they want someone "recent" to attract people.

Rusty Wallace is a Hall of Famer. But I would have waited another year to put him in. I think Benny Parsons should have gotten in.

With Rusty getting in on his first time, I think it almost garuntee Dale Jarrett will too. Maybe next year or the year after.

I think next year Bob Jenkins should get the Squirer-Hall award

Tim Flock yes but Bobby Isaac has 37 wins not Fireball Roberts. Bobby Isaac also has a championship as well.

Everyone they put in meets the criteria, and is then voted on by peers.

It's legit people. That's like saying Bill Walsh can be in the pro football hall of fame, but Joe Gibbs shouldn't be there yet.

I love Bob and hate that he's stepping down but Chris Economaki has to be next years awardee.

Bob Jenkins is by far my favourite announcer in the history of NASCAR, but I think Economaki would win before Bob.
I'm willing to bet Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons eventually get the award as well.

As far as what somebody said about Dale Jarrett I may be a bit biased because Jarrett is my favourite driver but I think he is a HOF worthy driver with 30+ wins and a championship, but what will put him over the top will be his three Daytona 500 wins. However I dont think he should be in there in the next year or two, but like I said before most of the guys we are talking about will get in eventually so I really dont see the big deal.

The thing about Economaki though is NASCAR wasn't his primary gig, unlike say Ned Jarrett or Ken Squier. AFAIK, he covered NASCAR on occasion but what I'm saying is like how Foyt is without question, a legendary driver, but he achieved the bulk of his success outside NASCAR so would it be right for him to be inducted or even nominated into the 'NASCAR' Hall of Fame specifically?

Wasn't Foyt one of the first drivers to win from another racing series?

I think Johnny Mantz was the first to do that. He used to run in AAA Champ cars before he won the first Southern 500 in 1950.
