That second 42 must have looked so odd racing with the bigger cars. Almost looks like one of the downsized cars from 81.

Ha, yeah it does look smaller, but I'm sure that's just b/c of less frontal area. Too bad the back of the car made up for it. The Monte was the same size, it was just centered / balanced on the chassis better.

The first red car isn't from 1980, Kyle failed to qualify for the 1979 World 600 in that car.

It looks like there was a healthy debate regarding this car at Randy Ayers. If you want to take a look at it here it is:

                http://www.randyayersmodeling.com/mo...ty+monte+carlo

Mike Beam posted that the car was purchased a week before the '80 600 from LG DeWitt as an old Joe Millikan car. It's on page 2 of the thread. The car was not repainted, and Petty cars typically had blue interior. Kyle Petty confirmed this was his 1980 car on Twitter, but I'm not trudging Twitter history for that, I'll leave that for anyone else that wants to search for that gem.

If you think about it, in 1979 Kyle basically used up the remaining Petty Mopars that weren't sold off before the King gave Kyle a Chevy for the '79 finale at Ontario, then why would they give Kyle a Chevy for his debut?

Additionally, I haven't been able to find video of the 1980 World 600, but I managed to find the '80 National 500 and Kyle in the 42.
