  • 1982 Formula 1 - Brabham

    Team - Parmalat Racing Team
    Drivers - (1) Nelson Piquet & (2) Riccardo Patrese
    Chassis - Brabham BT50
    Engine - BMW 1.5L L4 Turbo
    Tire - Goodyear

After starting off the season with a pair of DNF's. Bernie Eccelstone parked the BMW powered BT50 for more development. The team reverted back to last years Ford powered BT49 for Brazil and Long Beach. Understandably this move didn't sit well with BMW. The BT50 returned after the boycott at San Marino for Round 5 at Zolder. Piquet finished out the season with the BT50 while Patrese switched back to the BT49 for Monaco, Detroit, and Canada. For the USGP, Piquet's engine blew during the early laps of qualifying. The backup BT50 had engine issues and wouldn't run cleanly, as the second session was conducted in the rain it meant slower times for everyone. The end result was Piquet DNQ'd. After Canada Patrese went back to the BT50 for the remainder of the season. Interestinly, the only two wins for Brabham were Patrese at the Monaco GP in the BT49 and Piquet at Canada with the BT50.
