As I rarely visit the site anymore I've been considering what to do with it. It is coming up on it's 20 year anniversary so it is a difficult to think about closing it or get rid of. I lack the desire to do anything more than keep it online.

Think there would be any interest in someone purchasing the site? In the right hands it could easily generate a couple thousand a year.

Full of spam and prepubescent kids who post meaningless topics? Rura is a far cry from what it was when I joined and even farther from when it started.. I don't see anyone in here from back then anymore.. I really only come here for the cup news and I could get that anywhere else if I really wanted to. Some people have lives and aren't simracing as much anymore, some people got sick of NASCAR's BS and quit watching.. I'm pretty much both of those.

This this this. It has gotten really bad recently. I rarely come here because of it, especially when I can get my news from Reddit.

Throw some numbers out in the public, if you don't mind.
How much would a purchase cost be?
What are your current numbers for monthly overhead, as is?

If these numbers are available and convenient, I would think a proud, long term member here would be more than willing to spend the few $$$ to maintain / grow this little piece of nostalgia.

Cost about $420 a year and time to maintain. Phat bought and owns to the vBulletin software. With the advertising easily paying for the site with money left over even with the decline of Google Advertising Dollars it doesn't cost to just let it sit, but there is so much potential for improvement and growth and I've burned out from caring. I got tired of babysitting kids a long time ago.....

Guess I could just turn it over for someone else to refresh, update and maintain, but every time I have tried in the past I've had to go in and fix broken stuff.

I get, and understand the burnt out feeling. I really hope this place stays open though.

Yeah, I would hate to see this die, because it's the best consolidated source of information and discussion about NASCAR anywhere. I have only been here for a few years, and discovered it by accident looking for an image of a Brent Brevak ARCA car.

I have never looked at the sim stuff, because I don't play video games, or even really understand the appeal. This is a great NASCAR news site, and my most frequently visited website in my browser history.

I honestly found the site because of the original paint scheme threads at the time had stuff Jayski didn't. I was ecstatic, here was a place where other people like me loved all the different paint schemes throughout the year and were compiling them at a central location.

Webhosting bill is due is due in one month. Cost about $500 a year to keep this site online, and I don't see advertising producing that much. Any thought on how to get the hosting bill paid?

So, random thought, but what about a donation box or go fund me or patreon or something? Admittedly I missed this topic when it first came up. I'm curious and interested, but $500 is a bit steep on short notice, but I'm sure several of us here wouldn't mind pitching in towards another year. And that's not me suggesting without paying up, I'd gladly contribute a decent amount.

I love this site because as many others have said, it's the best resource for news and paint schemes. I tried other forums like SRD but didn't like the layout or community. Most people here seem to have their heads screwed on correctly, even if we disagree at times.

But I am curious about what kind of work goes into it. I'm not very proficient in coding, but if the only responsibilities are paying the bill, deleting posts and booting bots, then I'm genuinely interested. I visit the site twice a week at least, and daily at most.
