Did I hear correct that the 21 team is the only team running a 2007 Monte Carlo body for this race? Is that even allowed? I know the 3-year limit, but since when can you run future bodies?
Next thing you know, a COT runs in a speedway body race.

I heard the same thing during qualifying. I didn't quite understand it all, but they were talking about the rear of the car, and moving it around to get more air on the rear spoiler, for more downforce, I think its a rule change next year or something thats not mandated now.

When a driver says "well, that lost us the race" after a pit stop with more 30 to go, I classify that as giving up. He just had the best car tonight, which is why he was able to get back to the lead.

The car had hit the damn wall... it was damaged and off the pace. If they instated the rule the way you just wrote it, they could have 30 cars piled up coming out of turn 4, and the leaders would have to race their way through it. Get over it, the rule is the rule.

But you are complaining about how the rule is written, while people who work on the cars know the rules before the race starts, and play by them. Kenseth's car was dominant enough where I doubt a green-white-checkered would have made a difference.

My resentment towards Mark is simple....he's lied to and deceived his fans. Plain and Simple.

no, i honestly dont see where youre comming from. im a huge fan of his (obviously) and i dont feel deceived.
whats the reason everyone hates kurt busch? ASIDE from him being a jackass? he had NO LOYALTY and LEFT a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. charli, MARK MARTIN did not change his mind, ROUSH RACING changed their mind and they needed him, so he stood by them and did what he could to help the team. if you take a close look at the headlines, obviously mark had finally dropped roush racing like a hot potato, moving on to a new team in the cup series, and not even doing any races for roush. not even in the truck series, they will be for the wood brothers. i think jack wanted more out of mark and mark finally had enough.
i think people getting mark martin and his loyalty confused with roush racing.
Ryan Spaulding

Everyone has their favorite drivers, but I think that Mark has deceived his fans with the Salute To You tour. It... Mark Martin did change his mind. He had told everyone that 2005 was his final season. If Mark had any balls, when Roush needed him to come back this season, Mark should have said "no!" Honestly, I liked Mark Martin when I was growing up, he was a clean driver and very professional. But these last couple of years have really been quite unprofessional. Do you put in your two weeks notice at a job, and then they say "oh, but we need you so much," so you stick around? I know I haven't.
Also, think about his son... his father said "ok, I am not going to be gone every weekend starting next year," then changes his mind because Jack Roush doesn't have anyone to fill in that seat. If he were my father, I would have held him to what he said he was going to do.
Sure, loyalty is a great thing, but when it breaks a promise you make to your own child, you need to rethink your priorities and your loyalties.
Mike Henry Jr
11-18-2006, 07:22 PM
probably because of money  maybe he tried to get the same deal with roush? you know how roush is "we couldnt put that deal together for him." , this multi-car, multi-million dollar team cant put a deal together for someone who pretty much built the team?
maybe mark ventured out and is finally getting what he wants? after all this time? it really is a shame you guys are making him out to be the devil because jack roush is an a-hole. im a roush fan, but theres no way around that one.
Mike Henry Jr
11-18-2006, 07:25 PM
big difference between loyalty and balls. and its a damn shame most people dont know the difference. some people arnt selfish and want to help someone who gave them decent compeditive cars for 19 or so years? i dont know, just an odd ball guess?

Yes there is a big difference between loyalty and balls - you have to have loyalty to your family to have the balls to tell someone who made you a star "no". Or you have to have loyalty to someone who made you a star to have the balls to tell your family "oh, I changed my mind because Jack needed me more than you do."
willh94
11-18-2006, 07:31 PM
Cut the loyalty crap. If Mark had the "loyalty" to Roush, he would have stayed and run the :cen: truck next year like he PUBLICLY told EVERYONE he was going to.
Look, I respect the fact that you want to see him out there. I'm a Bill Elliott fan, I only saw him race once in person, then 3 weeks later, he announces he's running part-time. Which is what he has done. He stuck to his word.
Mark has PUBLICLY said "I'm leaving this year. Go buy the Salute to You merchandise, come see the races, say goodbye to me, since I won't be back" Then turns around and says...wait, I'm gonna run one more year. Then turns around again and says "I'm gonna run another year, and a few more after that." With another team no less. That's bull :cen:
Mark screwed Roush. Roush made their plans around the fact that Mark was NOT coming back next season. They signed a truck sponsor around Mark. They set drivers up for the #6 to replace Mark. Then Mark decides he wants to come back. Roush can't do it, so Mark leaves. The truck sponsor leaves Roush, and now Roush can't even figure out what to do with the #6.

Yeah yeah... you got me on that one. Just pissed me off, because what Mike said means that Mark thinks Jack Roush is more important than his own son.

If Mark wants to race he should be able to, yea, the goodbye thing for 3 years is odd, but hey, he obvisoly did not plan to be around for 2 more years.

He is probably anti-son because his son does not like the rap he does. Which is a good thing.
maybe you missed the interview ryan, but he said he checked with his familiy first. did he not? they were okay with it.
wheres the argument now? that the lord that he prays to didnt want him to do it?
What was his family supposed to say? No, Mark, you can't. And just because they ultimately agreed to it doesn't mean that his kid doesn't resent the heck out of Mark for making him make the choice of not having his dad around like dad has been promising for how long? A promise is a promise. Forget how his wife has to feel about it! Comes off as selfish to me.
And I won't comment on the whole last tour thing and all the merchandise his loyal fans bought only for it to be BS, regardless of the reason.
you really have no argument now, do you charli?

I hope it looks familiar considering that I pay for the internet connection that he uses! If the only argument that you have is that our IP address is the same, I'd say you're the one that has no argument!

mike, i think that the point that everyone is trying to make is that mark was gonna retire after 05, then publicaly made the announcement that he would retire after 06. then he comes around and says that he wants to come back part time in 07 in cup and a full-time deal in the trucks. roush couldnt set up a deal where he could run a competitive car for only some of the races. he left roush looking for a deal where he can run a part time schedule in cup, but in turn he lost the deal with the 6 truck.
originally mark wanted to retire, but once he realized that he would be missing so much, he wanted to stay. and over time people have gotten mad because he did lie to his fans. he didnt INTEND to lie, but the circumstances flew out of control.
mark wants to help his son, he does too, but not enough. the ideal situation is that mark could race some truck races this year and his cup schedule, maybe a few cups in 2008, and then call it quits, instead of going cold turkey

Mark Martin lost my respect after the First "Salute to me!" Tour.
Jack Roush lost my respect in the 90's for screwing over Tommy Kendall.

This is my one post on this subject. Take it or leave it.
I have been a Mark Martin fan my entire life. So naturally I will defend him.
At Atlanta in the fall of 2004 Mark announced he would stip running Cup full time, so he could run a less demanding schedule. Never did he say he was retiring completely. If you can find something where he said he would be retiring alltogether, I will gladly eat my words.
From his press conference in 2004:
"Mark Martin Announcement, done in Full-time Cup after 2005: at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Thursday, Oct 14th at 1:30pm/et. Bill Weber hosted. On the stage: NASCAR's Mike Helton, Roush Racing's owner Jack Roush, Mark Martin and Mark's wife Arlene. Roush talked first about his history with Martin. Roush then announced that 2005 would be the last seasson for Martin in the #6 Viagra Taurus. Martin said he was not retiring, but 2005 would be he last season going for the Nextel Cup. Martin says the tour will be called "Salute to You" tour and he plans to race something in 2006, not sure what, and mentioned the Truck Series. See the Roush Racing site for Mark Martin to Make Final Run for NEXTEL Cup in '05 and Jack and the Roush Stable comment on the Impact of Mark Martin on Their Careers(10-14-2004)"
Notice how he said not retiring. Fast forward to Mid-2005. Roush is able to get Jamie McMurray, but he can't get out of his contract. Kurt Busch decideds to leave to go to PRS. Jack is stuck. What does he do? He turns to Mark. Mark decides to take the deal. Was it the best decision? No. Was it something that he wanted to do? We will never really know. I was not entirely happy that he did it, but what can I do? He decided to come back. Most Mark fans I know were very happy that he was coming back for another year and could have cared less about merchandise. (Ironically the people complaining here about merchanise wouldn;t be buying since they are not Roush fans, but I digress).
So Mark ends up coming back, ran like crap most of the year, but still makes the Chase. Runs part-time in trucks, runs very well. Runs some Busch, runs well. Mark wants to continue to run part time, since he never did retire, just from full time cup. An oppurtunity arises for next year outside of Roush, so he takes it. Guess what, he is doing what HE wants to do. Not what Jack Roush wants him to do. Do you think he didn't talk this over with his son and wife? Point being, he did what he wanted to do. To me it is petty that everyone is arguing over who said this, hes a liar, all making accusations when i'm pretty damn sure that NONE of us know the inside workings of this and have no idea how this really played out. You may call him a liar, you may call him a backstabber, you may call him a bad family man, but he is still my favorite racecar driver, and he is a damn good one. I could care less if doesn't have a championship, I could care less if it's in a Ford or a Chevy. I just like watching him race and have fun doing it. And if there is something wrong with someone still racing because he wants to have fun and enjoy it and the time he can spend with my family, then I'm not sure I'm watching hte right type of racing.
My 2 cents. Take it as you please.

Mike, we both know you intended it to be a humorous way of saying "Charli is telling you to say that". Which I can assure you, he is not doing.

Oh I have definitely heard of a "joke" before. Too bad that what you said wasn't amusing nor funny. In fact, it was quite insulting. Because I'm a woman, I can't have any independent thoughts from Charli?
