daytona doesn't have yellow asphalt... the texture you are using looks more like concrete... I have plenty of pics takin' from daytona if you need any...

nice stuff--the asphalt is gonna kill some tires--and the car in the daytona pic looks kinda small to me--not knocking your work--just constructive criticism...

Well, Like I said, Im working on it, that is actually the Daytona track textures from the game for day daytona, Im gonna turn down the environmental lighting, um, the rough track, I can turn down the bump mapping, and stuff, but its realistic, and if u back off a little (Im pretty close to the track there), it looks much better...that one is sposed to be Texas...

I'm sorry but I think you're blowing smoke outta your :moon:.

Here's why: You claim your "flame" texture is from the game. No it is not. I have never seen the flame from the exhaust look like its puking. And now your trying to say that Daytona has concrete for pavement. Umm NO. It doesn't. Its asphalt. I don't care what kind of lighting you're using it won't make a gray texture turn yellow. Not even if its over saturated or washed out. I think you unpacked the dover.dat instead of daytona, because the definately looks like Dover. also Daytona has dotted lines around the top lane. Please stop blowing smoke, you aren't fooling anyone.

Yes your work is far greater than what I can do. Don't get me wrong. But if you're going to do something do it right.

You need to stop assuming, I might just have to prove you wrong, the flame WAS from the dat file from nascar 2002...

and this texture is str8 outa Nascar 2003 daytona...it looks like concrete because the light washes it out

Smart :moon:

I'll post the textures tommorow morning, to prove it ;-)

Go ahead, I want to see the flames too... Because.. If the light was washing out the tona track texture, it'd be washing out the car and grass too..:hi: I'm not stupid, I've dabbled in max...

look, i'm not trying to be mean, just trying to make your renders look more realistic. yes, i'm very harsh.

The top pic does look like Texas, except I believe the lines are white, and not yellow. Other than that, you nailed it

.:.VeNoM.:.
03-21-2003, 03:51 AM
Ok, Im gonna tackle this one by one, Juliath, I can change that, I have both White and Yellow lined textures...(I made that photo before I decided it was gonna be texas anyway, and I plan on putting the Texas logo on the wall, like I did Daytona...)

And now:
For the Fire:

1.) Open up WinMip2, Hit Open, Find (Your Papy Folder)>Nascar Racing 2002 Season>Effects then open up the effects.dat

You'll see a large list of files, just pick the first one, since they're mostly all the same..."fire01.mip"

That my friend, is the texture I used on my flames, so  !

2.) Open up WinMip2 Hit Open, Find (Your Papy Folder)>Nascar Racing 2003 Season>tracks>Daytona

Open daytona.dat open up any of the files beginning with asphalt _ _.dat

(Where the underscore we be the number of the texture.)

There, now that I have proven you wrong, give it up ;-).

Its blurry, but look at the coloring...(Behind Jack...) Thats with the sun...

http://www.motorsport.com/photos/nascar-wcs/2003/day/nascarwcs-2003-day-tc-0105.jpg

This is with the sun down a bit, But nevertheless, I'll darken it up to make everyone happy...

The one behind Jack is still gray, though. Your's is just... yellow..

opened ALL the asphalt.mip files.. all of em were GRAY!!!

and opened the CORRECT backfire.mip in the car.dat and there's your fire that your suppose to use. looks like papy was going to do some fireball effects for engine fire, but never got around to it, and left the mips in the effects.dat.. they've done that before.. much like the donut that's also in the effects.dat too :hi:

Why is it everytime I look in this forum, a arguefest between somone seems to have started. Just once I would like to look in here and not see it.

Onto the track color. N2k3 and Max are two totally different programs. One may interpret a texture differently than the other. I think what he has is good so far, but needs tweaking. I know nothing about Max so I base all my knowledge on assumption of the program. It does appear there is a lot of "yellow in the track" but I feel its because of too much sunlight there. The picture of Jack on the pitroad with the track in the background appears to be almost yellow but not as bright as in the render. However as stated before in the start of his thread, its a work in progress.

If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say it all. Telling him hes blowing smoke out his rear isn't gonna help him make his render better, and arguing back and forth about where the texture came from doesn't help either.

Like I said Im tired of coming into this render forum and the few threads that I check of works in progress turn into a war between someone. Its time to condense the nonsense and get rid of it. Bickering about where the orgin of a texture, and getting completely off topic of thread doesn't help anyone here at all.

Actually, all you need to do is change the "Daytona" logo to " Talladega" and you would fix most everything...

But I think I might try that LF :-) Ty for the idea, now people can enjoy Dega, Tona, and Texas, as well as Darlington, (That old render with the flame out the pipe)...if I ever release it...

Take it easy guys...lol...

Venom, have you checked out that backfire.mip in the cars.dat file yet? If so that'll make your renders with the flame coming out the exhaust highly more accurate. :)

Actually, yea, did it bout a week ago...found it in the new game, and just now looked and it was in the old game 2...Kinda embarrasing really, but the flames look similar, the ones for the backfire just have tails...
