This sim has a huge following, and is a great game to play. It is alot of work to get set up, butit is worth the effort. There are loads of car files and patches for this sim. It is very challenging to drive cause of the era of the cars, but it gives you alot of driving skill.
Here are some pics.

It's an incredible game to play, the A arm suspension dives up and down, the gauges all work etc. You will blow the motor up into a fire ball or just alot of black smoke depending on what you do to it. The graphics are deadly, lots of nice country side to race in. It's where i spend most of my time now. The AI is very controlable, the INI files are easy to tweak in the game.

Sorta scary to think that it was released in I think, 1998.

I love GPL...however XP does not love GPL so I can't play it anymore :( basicly anyone that played that before n4 had the edge on us N3'ers

I picked this up when it was released. What a CPU hog this thing was. It wasn't until I got my Celeron 300a O/C to 450 and a Voodoo 3 that this sim really began to shine.
I really stank with this sim. I ran thousands of laps at Watkins Glen and still couldn't find the consistancy to compete against the AI. I think I finished 5th or 6th once against the AI at the Glen. Dave and I raced once shortly after I moved and had a blast with it. Was very hard to get the hang of though.
Like Littlefan said this thing was well ahead of its time.

I have been running the Ferarri at Monza, i can run a 1.35 lap, the record is a 1.27. I have the AI turned down slightly just till i get the feel for the track and the AI.
I downloaded several new tracks for the game, Daytona being one of them  I really enjoy the graphics people have put into the tracks they made.

Lotus with my own setup
one thing good about racing N4 before GPL was that I was able to handel a high HP car like the Lotus

I have a hard time driving the Lotus. I am starting out with the Ferarri and running Monza. From what i have been told by people on other sites, this is the best way to start. I enjoy the Honda and the eagle, but for now i will stick with the Ferarri. I am using Alison Hines setup's as well, she has a very fast but stable setup. I am getting ready to start making small changes to the car and see what effect it has. Good to get some feed back from other people.

I started running the Lotus cuz it was a ford and the only US Manuf. in F1 at the time I didn't know it was the most powerfull car LOL
I ran Monza and Daytona RC alot...
Advice: Get VROC and go online..the nicest people to race with are GPL'ers

ah...one way you can pick up a whole second is to get in someone's slip stream on the long straights and let off a little like drafting....I could never do that cuz my nose would be implanted on their Gear Box <G>

I have been downloading replay's off the net, and trying to find some time there? i now run the RPM right up to 10,500-11,000 RPM before i shift. That helps keep the car up in the powerband longer. But one must be carefull wher you shift? it will cause the car to spin the crap out of the tires if you are in a turn under all that power. The replay's are a good learning tool for me.

yup when in a turn you can't keep the gas pedal down all the way till you're way late of the apex....and do you lift when you shift?
Fisher
01-04-2003, 10:45 AM
Yes i have learned to lift slightly when i shift as to not lose a whole lot of RPM. At first i was speed shifting and grenading motor's on a frequent basis. :( In some cars they will tollerate the abuse for a while? some won't
