I heard for 400 points you can transfer all the RB1 games into RB2. Shame GH didn't do that between GH2 and GH3. There were many good songs on GH2
If will be several weeks before I get RB2 though. Just bought Viva Pinata TIP for my wife and daughter, and my son GOW.

i think its 55 songs for the 400 points. i don't know exactly how many songs are in rockband though. the reason its not for free is because of the licensing deals with the record companies. doesn't matter what gamers or the game companies think, the record companies are greedy. still a pretty cool feature though.

Sounds like Metallica's Enter Sandman will not be able to transfer. The whole Death Magnet album is available on GH3 though.

...and World Tour, even though it isn't out yet, they'll be transferrable once it comes out.
And it's Death Magnetic,

Well with all the music being pirated why wouldnt you expect record companies to get as much money as possible wherever they can?

There should be no sympathy given to the RIAA. They have lobby Washington to help them rip off consumers and take Federal dollars to line a aid them in lining their pockets even further. They already make money off blank media and I think their whining about piracy should have stopped when they won that battle. They are greedy and deserve the worse they can get.

i picked this up yesterday. me and a buddy had a band in rb1 on his xbox, but i decided to get rb2 for myself, along with a guitar. i love this game. some subtle improvements here and there, but the core game is basically the same. the difficulty seems a bit easier than in rb1, but its not too big of a deal, just go harder. the guitar is better. i got the wireless rb2 guitar, my friend has the black wired rb1 guitar, and for some reason the wireless just seems to feel better, and it does play a bit better. also quieter.
all in all, defiantly a good pickup if you like these games. only downside is, to get the game out sooner, it didn't ship with all the tracks, gotta wait a month till it comes out for the other consoles then the rest of the tracks will be a free download. gotta wait for everlong, alive, lazy eye, and a few others. was REALLY wanting to play everlong. oh well.

heh, nevermind, i'm an idiot! they changed things from rockband 1. before you'd input the cheat code for all songs in the 'press start' screen. now theres a screen where you can input cheat codes. so i guess you only have to do the cheat once, and you then go to this menu, scoll down, and can just select all the songs to be unlocked.

Is this worth the $60? Is there enough difference between this one and the first one? I looked at the song list for this game and the new Guitar Hero and I don't see enough good songs to make me rush out and buy either. I might just buy more of the songs off Live and add to Rock Band.

its better in the same sort of ways that n2002 was better than n2003, sort of a patch in a box but in a lot of big ways.
the song selection is supreme, IMO, with TONS of songs for dlc.

That's pretty much this jist of it. Just new songs and some modifications to the guitar and drums. If you wanna go all out, you could grab the $300 drumkit, but your better off just getting a real set.

i really like it, i do like it more than rockband 1. but yeah, as was said, its like nr02 to nr03. you thought nr02 was fine, played nr03, which you think is no biggy, then go back and realize, yikes, get me out of this! give me nr03! lol. 84 songs in rockband 2 on the disc, with another 20 coming out in a month for free. all but 3 or 4 songs transfer from rockband 1. so i'd say, if you really don't care for those songs, trade rockband 1 in for rockband 2 and you're golden! thats exactly what my friend did.
btw, the songs of rb2 are awesome!

i highly recommend everyone to play "everlong" on drums on expert as soon as you unlock.
note: you may need to put it on no fail mode. its intense.
also, i got my first 100% on expert on vocals, and i did it twice in a row. "come out and play" and "everlong." anyone else get 100% on anything on expert? im still pumped about it. :roxs:

i'm not sure if the rb2 drumkit is out yet, but it is a step up (wireless, quieter, more responsive pads). i know the gamestop i went to had used guitar hero guitars, but they were out of rb1 guitars. so, my guess is yes, they'll take back rb1 stuff. some people won't care and will buy a used rb1 guitar for rb2.
btw, if you do go the route of trading in rb1 for rb2, do it AFTER you transfer the rb1 songs to rb2! lol. just a heads up on that.

while very true, i think its a huge selling point for rockband that 99% of the content in the first game will go into the second game seamlessly.

Guitar Hero has a leg-up with their song creator and the new touch pad on the neck of the guitar. Rock Band might have a butt load of songs, but only half of them are any good. The setlist for GH:WT is pretty damn good.
Jim 18
09-25-2008, 03:10 PM
but thats really all personal opinion, because i find rockband 2's setlist better than gh:world tours personally. plus rockband 2 has a pretty neat feature where, when doing quickplay, you can make a playlist of songs, so you can play a number of songs without having to return to the song menu. doesn't sound like a big deal but it is a really neat feature and keeps you playing.
the song creator is a big feature though. will be interesting to see how accessible it is.

Played this game last night for about 4 hours. :band: Need to unlock all the songs. :roxs: I did export all the RB1 songs into it so we can play the old ones. We had all but about 3 songs unlocked in it. :bigthumb: All the Boston, Buffet and other songs we had bought were already there and waiting.

Shame the Rock Band guitar is so pathetic at the power-ups. Good thing I have to 2 Guitar Hero Guitars, because the guys that made the Rock Band ones really dropped the ball. You can throw the thing against the wall and it still won't realize you are trying to use a power up. I like the strum bar and buttons better, but it isn't worth the trouble to use. When I first got it I thought is was broke, so I returned it and got another one. It was just as sorry, so I'm assuming the makers of it just don't have a clue what they are doing.

We have the one that came with Rock Band 1. It hasn't been used a dozen times because it is such a pile. They would have an awesome controller if the "overdrive" switch worked, but after getting stuck with this piece of junk there is no way in the world I'd throw more money at them for the new wireless one. I'm sure they will not send me one to try before I buy, so I'm not risking it. Isn't worth taking a chance off after owning the first one.
We have been thinking about buying another Guitar Hero wireless guitar however. We currently have the wired one that came with GH2 and the wireless one that came with GH3. At least they make a good axe :dude: We will probably wait for World Tour and get the new one

I've never been a fan of tilting the thing to start overdrive, I always just hit the select button. For some reason the tilting always messes up my rhythm, I feel like I can be more accurate by just hitting the button. But that's just me.

Update on our impressions of Rock Band 2. Big improvement over the first one. Graphic and gameplay are the same, but they have added a lot of little features that make it much more enjoyable.
A couple of our friends have Down Syndrome. The no fail feature makes this much more enjoyable for them when they come over to play. They loved the first one, but I think they got frustrated by failing on many songs. Glad the makers realized some people play this for fun, not just for score and achievements. I've never seen a karaoke machine fail anyone.
The ability to create one character to use for all instruments was something that the first one really dropped the ball on. I could not figure out how this was overlooked for the first one. Glad they realized their mistake.
Seems easier to unlock songs. I don't know why they lock them to begin with. Seems lame. I don't want to waste my time jumping through hoops, I just want to play. We didn't even unlock them all in the last game. To much trouble. We rarely play career mode.

yeah, i agree gib. the feel of rockband 2 is just better. btw, you can unlock all the songs, and you only have to enter the code once. in the screen where you can select the no fail mode, hit 'enter code' and on the normal buttons (solo buttons don't work for this), its red yellow blue red red blue blue red yellow blue. that'll give you the option to unlock all songs further down that list. but, achievements will be disabled.... if you care. lol.
I've never seen a karaoke machine fail anyone.
.
Thats not nessicarily a good thing, i'm sure Youtube will back me up. but is a good feature for RB.

same exact thing happened to my buddy's, and its apparently been a pretty big problem. just call the warranty number they give you, and they'll give you a couple options. my buddy did had them send a new one, and he'd load the broken one into that box and send it back.
there's also a metal plate you can buy that the game makers actually recommend using. i forget where you can order it, but my friend got one and installed it and it definalty feels a LOT stronger now.

i don't see why not, it's free. if you do the option my friend did, they'll put a hold on your credit card (pretty crazy sum, too, like $160 or something crazy), but once they get the broken pedal, they may only charge 5 or 6 bucks and give you a brand new pedal. or they send you a box, you load the broken pedal in, send it to them, and they send you a new one. i can't remember if they charge for shipping, they may not. if not, hey, its free!

::checks older xbox magazine::
yup, you can get an adapter for the world tour drum set to allow for 2 bass pedals, but i dunno if its only two guitar hero pedals, or a guitar hero and rock band pedal.
::edit:: just realized you were talking about the guitar... hehe whoops. that too would be kinda cool... except for the fact the bass pedal is huge!

Well my roommate received his RB2 bundle for PS3 from UPS yesterday. The first thing we did was export all of my songs from RB1 to his HDD which only took a few minutes and cost $5.00. We only got to play for about 30-45 minutes but here's my first impressions:
Right out of the box I noticed the guitar wasn't really what was advertised. They promoted a new 'sunburst' body and that darker wood neck. Well this guitar has the new neck but the body is the same black guitar from RB1. Nothing really important but weird. The buttons are a lot quieter which is nice. Strum bar doesn't feel as squishy either, which is good.
So far I'm actually disappointed in the drums. They were said to be quieter than the RB1 set but I found them to be pretty loud, if not louder than the old ones. The heads are velocity sensitive during the drum fills, but because I'm used to hitting the drums a certain way, you can hardly hear what is played during a fill because I guess I'm not hitting them hard enough. I found you really have to beat the crap out of them to make the fills audible, at least on my speaker setup. I do like the bass pedal, much more sturdy and easier to press, especially when you have a lot of notes back to back.
The game itself is essentially the same, nothing drastic has been changed, it feels like you are playing RB1 because it looks identical. No Fail mode is cool.
All and all I'm kinda disappointed as a first impression. It's still fun to play, it's Rock Band, but it's not fresh by any means. Feels like you are just playing some new DLC or something.
I'm gonna wait and see how GH:WT does before I make my final decision, but as of right now, I'm really thinking about buying the GH bundle and the RB2 disc.

I bought it on sunday, and so far I love it. I need tio get a copy of RB1 to export all the songs, to me the songs were better in RB1 but theres a few in rb2 that i really like as well. I find the drums are alot better, they seem better buitl as there more sturdy and at least to me there quieter.
I got a question tho. On the achevment to "Gold Star a song", dont you have to get 100% on the song without missing any notes?? Cause Ive done songs on 100% on easy and med. Does the difficulty have to go up, it doesnt say anything about difficulty tho.

You have to get the song nearly 100% with no overdrive to get five stars. Using overdrive allows you to get 5 stars fairly easy.

S_Gibson
10-21-2008, 03:41 PM
When we play we can get 5 stars typically within 2/3 of the song using overdrive. Without overdrive you have to ALMOST get the whole song without missing a note. When you miss a note about half way through the song we have found we can still get 5 stars with only a note or 2 left in the song. My wife and I only play easy and medium. My son plays the higher levels.

gold star comes in when you get around 20% over 5 stars.
ie. if you get 5 stars at 500,000 you have to get to 600,000 to get gold star.

yeah, just looked into it. gold start is when you get about 1.5-1.7 times (no one knows for sure apparently) the gold star score. found this link which gives a basic cutoff, so you have something to shoot for if you want the achievement.

i believe its in rockband 1, in options or extras, its just 'export songs.' you need to buy the pass, and theres an update for rockband 1 so it will do this i believe. i havn't done it since late summer, and i've been meaning to do it for a few months now, but havn't gotten around to it.
one nice thing is that you can delete songs you don't like. you have to do it through dashboard, but its definatly handy.
