The United Shorttrack Alliance is getting ready for its eighth straight season of exciting short track sim racing. This series started in 1997 with NASCAR Racing 1 and a ten-race schedule; now we're getting ready with our first full season using the latest Papyrus Racing sim, NASCAR Racing 2003 Season.
Several tracks are coming out for the new sim, and some have been added to the 2004 schedule for the USA Series. Quite a few tracks also keep their traditional dates: the IronMan Series (four of the toughest flat short tracks, featuring twin 75-lap features for the Late Models); Hialeah Speedway will play host to the Marion Edwards Memorial 200; the Florida Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway; the Dogwood Classic weekend at Martinsville; Mesa Marin Speedway's high-banked half mile will see the Golden State 200; and the Myrtle Beach Speedway will have the USA Series in action on Memorial Day weekend. Also returning will be the Independence 300, the annual Fourth of July weekend double-points event. This event serves as the USA Series Mid-season Championship at Birmingham International Raceway.
New tracks coming onto the schedule for 2004 include Jennerstown Speedway, Concord Motorsports Park, Thompson Speedway, and LaCrosse Speedway. The schedule is not complete as of this writing, and event dates and tracks could change before the season starts in March 2004.
One traditional event that will change is the former weekend of the All-American 300. This top-drawing event saw as many as 70 cars sign in to try and qualify for the 24 starting spots. This event weekend, held at the newly-renamed Music City Motorplex (formerly Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, and Fairgrounds Speedway), will now become the Music City 400. Held in conjuction with this big event is the annual Chevy Thunder 200 (formerly 100 laps) for the USA Series Trucks.
Speaking of the Trucks, the USA Series Trucks will make their full-schedule online debut at "Thunder in the Valley", a 50-lap companion event to the annual Spring Sizzler Late Model season opener. They'll also follow the same schedule as the Late Models, but run about a week ahead on Tuesday before the Late Models run. Both schedules for Late Models and Trucks are posted at the USA Series site, but again, there could be changes before the season starts.
Already, a good field of cars has signed in to compete in the 2004 USA Series. This looks to be our best year yet and more drivers coming into the series as we move through the off-season. We look forward to having you come and compete with the United Shorttrack Alliance in 2004!
