I have 2 DVD-RW Internal Drives that are not recognzing blank DVD's when I put them in. It recognizes a disc, but it's coming up as a CD-R disc when it's really a DVD-R disc thats in it. I have tried firmware updates, uninstalling and reinstalling and various types of blank media.
Anyone have any suggestions? Are they both shot?

Bad disc? I've had a spool of disc where only a few out of the entire spool worked.

I've had the same experiences as Gib. Probably just a bad disc.

Same thing happened to me just last week. Bought a spindle of 100 and out of the first 30 I burned, 4 were good.
Could be brand, could be bad disc, I won't buy that brand again though just to be on the safe side.

Well I thought for sure a Memorex DVD would work with a Memorex Drive.

It was either Memorex or TDK that I had bad disc on. I exchanged them and I still buy those brands. I figured I just got a bad batch that time.

I use this guide religiously now after the run in I had with my bad media.
