I have a question for everyone except the developers. I have heard a number of people say "I'm going to wait until the CD comes out in the stores to buy." My question is - why? I haven't put much thought into it, but I can't figure out why anyone that wants the game, wouldn't just download it. The only thing I can think of (and this not an insult at all) is those too young to puchase online themselves that don't have parents willing to do it for them. There must be other reasons I haven't thought of so if someone would like to enlighten me, please do.

As for me, I'm downloading it as soon as it's available.

Thanks for any responses!

Prolly so they dont have to have a 9hour download and just install it. And if your computer breaks you can just put the cd in, you cant do that with the download (inless you burn the installer onto a cd) then i have no idea why they would wait

I got really slow download speed so it would probably take me forever. I usually get like 20kb when downloading nr2003 carfiles and mods and it blows. I'm on cable too so I don't know whats wrong.

Yeah have em come and check your lines. Mine was slow at first, cause the outside line was so old. they replaced the line from the pole to the house for free. And now my dl's kick ass

Yeah if you have "hi-speed" internet and it isn't giving you the expected speed, call your ISP. 90% of the time, they will come out, test the lines and fix the problem for FREE.

And if you only get 20k down (which is worse than dial-up) how the heck can you race online? I think NR03 required 22k up/down to maintain stability (and that is a surprisingly low number).

Thanks for the responses. I thought it was more of a fear thing or "comfort zone" thing with the CD. As far as a re-install, I have an external HD that I save all my installers on so, at least for me, that's a non-issue.

My speed is fast, Like pages load instantly, NR2003 doesent lag ever. It's just download and upload speed. I will call them later this week but I never lag in Nr2003.

OK people..little lesson in technology.

->kb/s is not equal to KB/s
->kb/s = kilobits per sec, KB/s = kilobytes per sec, 8 bits=1 byte
->56kb/s dial up is about 7 KB/s if it's perfect without any overhead
->5000 kbps cable connection will max out at about 625 KB/s..again if everything is perfect

Clear as mud?

Right now the only reason I would preffer buying a CD is cause I still have a $50 Target Gift Card from Christmas but I cant wait 6 months
I am correct right, 6 Months after the 31st for the CD to come out

So you can only install rFactor 5 times? Wow, that seems pretty lame. I format and reinstall my operating system about every 9 months. I'd hate to do that and buy a PC or two over the next 3 years or so and have to buy the same software twice.

[quote]I think really what it is, is that some people probably want the CD as it could be installed any number of times, whereas, I am assuming, that the internet download, if its done like Rfactor was, would just let you install 5 times before you were out of keys...I guess.{/quote]

You never would have to use those installation keys up if people would make a backup of their TRYMEDIA folder.

You had five installs, then if you had to do it again, all it took was a simple phone call or internet email to open it again. And all this was only needed if you had major hardware change or major system upgrades.
